Competition Rules
Got an epic story to tell? A shot that needs to be shared? An awesome trick that deserves an "ooh" and an "ahh"? We want you to capture your fun, unexpected, and stellar moments this winter to share with our community!
Enter your film into the Stellar Film Competition, with prize winning categories for Best Overall Film, Best Edit, Best Cinematography, Best Storytelling, Best Trick, and People's Choice! Films will premiere on the big screen in February 2026 to kick off Coldsmoke.
Before you start planning your masterpiece, take a moment to review the competition rules & guidelines below.

Theme: Films shot between March 2025 and February 2026 that focus on snow, mountains, skiing, or riding, with a strong connection to the Kootenays. Remember, there are 5 categories to win prizes, plus People's Choice!
Video Length: Films must be a maximum length of 3 minutes. We know you're excited, but no 30-minute epics here — keep it short and sweet so it packs a punch!
Video Format: Films must be horizontal. This ain't an Instagram Reel contest, this is a Film Competition. Please submit all films in 1920 x 1080 and at least 1080p.

Video Gear: GoPro? Yes! Phone camera? Yes! Your dad’s old 80's camcorder? Yes! A fancy new video camera? Yes! Whatever gear you've got is perfect!
Producers: Up to two people can submit each film. Of course you can shoot as many of your buddies as you want, but the two names on the submission are the only ones eligible for prizing. If you submit solo and your film wins Best Overall Film, you get to pick a friend to join you in the heli!

Entry Fee & Important Dates: The entry fee is $20.00 and will be open from December 16, 2025 to February 14, 2026 at midnight. Entry does not include tickets to the premiere night, so be sure to purchase those if you'd like to attend.
Who should enter: New to skiing or riding? Tell us your story! Don’t have a crew of tricksters or a fancy camera? Not a problem! We've created multiple categories to help you find your niche. Focus on what you can do, and let it shine! We can't wait to see your winter experiences through whatever lens you choose!
The Fine Print
By submitting your video to the Coldsmoke Film Competition, you grant Whitewater Mountain Resort permission to use your video for promotional purposes. This may include featuring your video on our website, social media platforms, and at the premiere night. All video use will include appropriate credits, acknowledging the names of those who submitted the film.
Please note that depending on number of entries, we may only premiere top films. If your film is not chosen to be shown live, it will still be featured on our website.
