Winter is Back!
The forecast calls for more snow today (Monday) and another system on Wednesday which will quickly erase the memory of days gone by and get us back into our more traditional Whitewater Zen.
With Sunshine and fresh snow on Sunday many people got back out to take advantage of the stellar conditions. We were also no exception and after skiing the pow on the hill all morning we ventured out into the backcountry to see how things were skiing in Acidophilus and White Queen. Knowing that things were not as safe as they looked we took the time to study the CAC avi forecast and also consult the avalanche info display at Whitewater across from the customer service desk. After signing out we decided to play things uber safe as sluff management was of extreme importance this day. On South aspects the sun was doing it's thing and cooking the pow into a heavier more mobile mass so again caution was of upmost importance.
Fresh snow and sunshine can often make people make bad decisions in the backcountry so be sure to get up to date knowledge before you go in addition to the required skills and training. There is plenty of info available on line and also at Whitewater so don't let the beautiful views from the Whitewater lodge fool you, it's not always as safe as it looks.

Enjoy and be safe.
