Whitewater's Winter Carnival is almost here!
If the sudden dip in temperature hasn?? reaffirmed that we are in the heart of winter, than Whitewater?? upcoming Winter Carnival January 19th and 20th should cement your love of the season. So much better than a carnival filled with Carney??, rides that may have been assembled with Hubba Bubba, or games that were designed for you to never win (at a steep price), but a family friendly event that celebrates the natural awesomeness of the season. The only tickets you will need for the Winter Carnival are to our annual Snowball Apr?s Party on Saturday night, which includes a stunning buffet by our talented chefs.
There will be a variety of free events being offered throughout the weekend so check out our event page and partake in all the free, fun activities being offered for the carnival. So warm up after your favorite run by toasting some marshmallows in our fire pit, while watching our snow sculpting competition going on throughout the day. Cassia Barrett will be on site with her magical face painting skills for the young and young at heart. For those staying with us for dinner, not only will you be able to enjoy the music of Bessie and the Back Eddies, but a torch parade down the mountain, followed by fireworks. Just a reminder to anyone who would like to indulge in some spirits or prefers to leave their car at home, we are offering a free shuttle up to the party with the first pick up at Safeway at 4:55pm, then the downtown Whitewater office at 5:00pm, and the hitching post at 5:05pm. The return shuttle will leave the mountain at 7:30pm at the end of the night.
If the Winter Carnival isn?? extreme enough for your taste than join us for Gericks Summit Cup Race on Saturday, January 19th. New to this year the race will be offered as a skier/ boarder cross open to all ages. You can register upstairs in the lodge the day of for $20.00, or $15.00 in advance at either Gericks Ski and Cycle (702 Baker St.) or at our downtown office (602 Lake St.). Just a reminder to all participants that there is a $20.00 bib deposit that will be returned after the race is completed. Winners will be receiving some sweet swag so get into the spirit of winter and don?? get left behind at the gates!
For all of our backcountry buffs come check our Avalanche Awareness Day all day on Sunday, January 20th. Our very own Nelson Search and Rescue will have a booth setup outside of the lodge from 9:00am-3:00pm to answer all your questions. We also have a variety of demonstrations and the Transceiver Olympics taking place in the afternoon. If you are interested in getting your safety on, meet in the Meadow to join in and win prizes.
