Whitewater Teams up with Canadian Cancer Society for the Annual Slopes for Hope Event

Your chance to ski the elevation of Everest, without leaving the Kootenays!    Nelson BC — Think you've got your ski legs by now? Saturday, March 9th will be your chance to prove it!

Whitewater is excited to host the second annual Slopes for Hope fundraising event.  This single day event is an "Everest-style" ski-a-thon where participants strive to ski the full elevation of Everest, all on the slopes of Whitewater! This can be done individually, or in a team (up to 4 members per team).   What is the vertical of Everest you ask? 29,029 feet. To give you an idea of how many runs you, or your team, are going to need to ski, we've broken it down for you: Silver King (900 feet) approximately 32 runs; Summit (1249 feet) approximately 23 runs; and Glory (2044 feet) approximately 14 runs. No need to limit yourself to just one lift, mix it up a little! We will be counting your runs at the bottom of each chair lift, so you can move around the hill as much as you want. In support of this event, Whitewater will be providing participants who raise $100 or more their lift ticket for the day at a 50% discount.  Not enough incentive? How about a ton of prizing, thanks to the generous donations from our community, live music and a great cause? The Canadian Cancer Society's mission is to eradicate cancer and enhance the quality of life of those living with the disease.  Money raised at the event goes towards cancer research, prevention initiatives, and to support various programs such as Camp Goodtimes, which is a unique summer camp for children and their families fighting cancer.

There is no good reason to not to be on the slopes of Whitewater next weekend!  Where do you begin you ask? There are a few different ways that you can register. You can register online at www.slopesforhope.ca/Whitewater, at the downtown Whitewater office at 602 Lake Street, and also at the mountain. Then let the pledge collections begin! Are you a business and want to get involved as well? There are three ways that you can do this and help keep the costs of the event down, ensuring that proceeds can go directly to fight the cause:1) Become a cash sponsor 2) Donate a prize for the event 3) Join the event as an individual, or start a team. We'd love to hear about your Slopes for Hope journey. Check out our event page on Facebook, and follow the event with the hashtag #SlopesForHope on Twitter.
