What Whitewater Did this Summer!

With the first snow of the year falling last week in Ymir Bowl, fall is in the air at Whitewater! We have had a busy summer on the mountain with the continuing upgrades to the daylodge, on hill improvements and lift maintenance.

The daylodge renovations this summer included a near gutting of the top floor to re- insulate and drywall. New lighting and rubber flooring will finish things off making it bright, energy efficient and most importantly, warm and cozy!

Earlier in the spring, we invested in an excavator which has been hard at work all summer. The Silver King side has been the priority, pulling in some of the old logging roads, re contouring and generally smoothing out the runs from Concentrator to Sluice Box. Gladding and Brushing on the Summit side from Sleeper over towards Highgrade/Enchanted Forest has been done. A plan is also in the works for rock blasting to help remove some of the large boulders at the top of Motherlode and on Bonanza.

Customers will also find more spots to park in the main parking lot. A D8 was brought in to reshape and remove the 'hump' increasing the overall lot size by 10 metres wide, 100 metres long.

We have hired a logging company to work from September through to early October to harvest and transport the Spruce Beetle infested blow down which occurred approximately 2 years ago in the Backside area. This will address a forest health issue, identified by the Ministry of Forests in the surrounding terrain, specifically around the backside (spur 300) cut block and the Quartz ski way area of the ski hill.

The lift maintenance crew has been working through a summer maintenance program that has included the painting of the Summit chair. The lifts are in great shape and ready for the regular fall inspection.

The amendments to our Master Development Agreement are in front of the various Ministries for approval. We expect to have the plan back and ready for public review later this year.

Whitewater would like to remind locals that season passes are on sale until September 26th for the Earlybird pricing. The Powder Plus card will be back for the season as well offering to the not so regular customers great deals on lifts passes as well.
