Wanted... Avalanche Reports!
Last week on the 16th of February we had a freezing rain event that created a crust on all aspects and at all elevations. This crust is sitting over lower weaknesses that still do not have enough of a load on them to react. In sheltered areas, there is up to 30cm of snow on the recent crust while exposed areas have the crust right on the surface.
Our main concern is recent wind slabs that have formed on the crust. They have been quite reactive over the week with several accidental avalanches in leeward features up to size 2.
If you witness an avalanche, start an avalanche or see recent activity please bring it to the attention of your local avalanche professionals. This information helps us know if someone is involved and needs help or the reactivity of layers in the snowpack we are monitoring. It makes a huge difference in keeping people safe! Do your part and help everyone out! Please don't feel like you're going to be in trouble or be judged if you do report an incident. Avalanches happen to even the most trained professionals.
