The Storm Cycles Continue

We have had another 70cm of snowfall over the past week that brought more great skiing in the area but also elevated our avalanche hazard to HIGH in the backcountry as a reactive storm slab developed. Explosive control at Whitewater produced size 2 storm slab avalanches, and we also saw natural avalanches in Ymir bowl to size 2. Avalanche Canada is calling the hazard considerable today as this storm slab will need time to heal. We do have more snow in the forecast Friday night and Sunday, which will again increase the hazard.

Our biggest layers of concerns right now are the January 3rd rain crust, the December 31 surface hoar, and we are still monitoring the December 11 surface hoar now down 160cm in the snowpack.

This weekend is our Junior Free Ski Competition which will mean Sleeper and Blast will be closed for the venue. Please respect the closures and check our website daily for updates.
