The Rites of Spring and the Powers of Flowers
It's amazing to think that a whole month has passed since the closing day at Whitewater. We putter around in our gardens, take the mower out for a first-of-the-season rip, bike, hike and more. Though I'm always sad to see the season wind down, we Nelsonites are lucky to live in the place we do. Seasonal changes help us through transitions and big views make any day uplifting (if you look out the window or go for a walk). Flowers and fruit trees are blossoming, pretty and full of promise.
If, for whatever reason, you want to get up high to snowshoe or ski tour, remember that in the off-season it's a totally new ball game—both in terms of conditions and being safe. There's plenty of snow to play on, but it sure is different. Be sure to check out the Whitewater off-season backcountry safety and policy page. And, until the lifts start to spin again in seven months, make sure to smell the roses (and other flowers). And bike and hike and walk and run and SUP and paddle and chill and read and BBQ and laugh a little.
