The Psychology of Late Season

With the telltale signs of spring popping up all around us, speaking to people about their ski plans is an interesting study. It's as though some people are trying to convince themselves that it's all over. "Ya.... this has been an amazing season but, with the temperature spike this weekend, it'll all be over." Have these people skied lately? Do they really think it's all over or do they just want to believe it's all over so they can get on with their lives?

I say the answer is somewhere in between. Around this time of the year, a shift happens with whitewater skiers. Some people seem to be looking for an excuse not to ski—and I totally respect that (my household chores have been piling up since early December). Truth is, once the lifts stop spinning, these very same people may be the ones most sad to see the ski season winding down.

An attempt at being arty. At least it showcases our impressive snowpack and gives our beloved Ymir Peak a primo background placement.

Is it OK to let go? I say to each his or her own. We all know what can happen end of March/beginning of April. HUGE! DUMPS! That's great for people who want to keep at it—and for those who've moved on, it's OK too. What matters is that this season has been spectacular and I'll bet most of us have got enough days in by the time we shut 'er down for another season.

And, for those who just can't get enough, remember that we are blessed with various options in this neck of the woods.
