The Glory Ridge Update

So it is what everyone has been waiting for??.the Glory Ridge Update! This summer the Whitewater team has been working hard to make the terrain off the Glory Ridge side even better than last year. Crazy, I know. Last year Whitewater nearly doubled its size with this ??glorious??new lift, and with the lift comes a lot of clean up from its installation. It is an ongoing, never-ending cycle to stay on top of the summer grooming.Although there has been tons of work done the main projects are listed below:Improvements on the ??Backside Ski Out?? We have done extensive grading on the 'Backside Ski Out' that leads from the B-parking lot 4km in length down to Glory chair base. This includes re-contouring the uphill bank to provide a smoother transition onto the ski way, as well as filling in various depressions and low points so guests can more easily glide back to the base of Glory chair.Transition Improvement on ??Bound for Glory?? We brought the spider hoe in this summer to do a little slope contouring and rip rap above tower #4 on Glory chair. This is to improve the transition from 'Bound for Glory' onto the 'Backside ski way'.Bye Bye Stumps There has been selective stump removal and grading below tower #4 on skiers right of lower 'Bound for Glory'. This is to improve surface roughness and enable our groomers to groom that side of the lift line with less snow. This project will not be fully complete this year, more work has been scheduled for next summer to complete. The NEW Jack Leg Glades Work has been done gladding, removing dangerous trees, and spacing on skiers left side between tower #9 (Backside Skiway) and tower #4 on Glory Chair. This was previously a "Not Recommended??area referred to as the Bermuda triangle. This will open up and improve the fall line skiing and safety in this area between the lift line run 'Bound for Glory' and 'Backburner'. An Even More Glorious ??Morning Glory?? Our excavator is currently building a road up 'Morning Glory?? through very rocky ground, to the first top steep pitch. We plan to provide at least 4 cat passes wide removing stumps and selective large rocks. Preparations for selective Boulder splitting and blasting is taking place to reduce the size of these natural obstacles on 'Morning Glory' run. This will further enhance the groom ability of this run and increase safety and the overall flow.Cleaning House We are continuing to clean up slash from last year's logging. In addition extensive bucking and piling has been taking place on upper 'Morning Glory' and 'Ramble On' to prepare for pile burning this fall. What else? Deactivating certain old skid roads on 'Huckelberry trail' and 'Canadian Bell'Future Plans As time permits on Summit side: extending the Gold Pan ski way farther onto Bonanza, starting the 'Joker to 'Catch Basin' ski way to create a wider ski way from 'Summit Ski way' traversing over to 'Sproulers?? Further spacing and gladding is planned to improve access from 'Bound for Glory' lift line into the upper pitches of 'Single Malt', 'Backburner', and 'Jack Leg'.Potential New Runs? Three 40-50m wide runs extending from 'Backside skiway' into 'Old Growth Glades' have been mapped and ready for development. We are waiting on a logger to confirm action. If this does not happen the project may wait until next year.New Glory Ridge TerrainSo what ARE you WAITING for?!
