Snowline Creep

Believe it or not, our dear Whitewater opens in about a month. Now's the time of year when people are planning, scheming and getting stoked about the upcoming ski season. Some folks have already put on their skis and gone for a walk up high.

Here in the valley, in Nelson, the bigger peaks peekaboo out from different viewing angles. What we look at mostly, though, is Elephant Mountain. With an elevation of around 1600M, Elephant Mountain isn't the biggest peak, but it's a good indicator of what kinds of snow there might be up at the base of Whitewater--which is about as high.

We can't dip a ski pole into the snow on top of Elephant to check the snowpack, but we can catch inspiring glimpses on crisp sunny days as the clouds part and reveal the white stuff at the tippy top. That's all I need to keep me going for the next few weeks, 'til the fun starts again for another year.
