Silent Auction Proceeds Go To AABBS Program
Part of why we live here in the Kootenays, is because we love the mountains and we love to play in the mountains. There is a whole new generation of youth growing up here, who are following in our footsteps, and why not? It's how they've been raised. We want to make sure they are safe and have the appropriate knowledge to ensure their safety in the backcountry.
This is why, in 2009, a group of ski industry and business professionals founded the non profit society; Avalanche Awareness Beyond the Boundaries Society who's aim was to provide free Avalanche Canada (CAA) approved Avalanche Skills Training (AST) courses to Nelson and area youth between the ages of 13-18.
Next weekend at the Kootenay Coldsmoke Powder Fest Backcountry Buff-EH dinner (held at the Whitewater Lodge Sat. Feb. 21st) will be a silent auction full of generous donations from all aspects of the Nelson and area community, as a fundraiser for the Avalanche Awareness Beyond the Boundaries Society. Last year it raised $3,400 to go towards paying instructors and updating equipment! Buff-EH tickets are $55 per person and available online at coldsmokepowderfest.com.
Just a few of the items available to bid on at the silent auction are:
