Shelter from the Storm
“I came in from the wilderness, a creature void of form Come in, she said I’ll give ya shelter from the storm.”
Bob Dylan may not have had skiing on his mind when he penned “Shelter from the Storm”, but the lyrics fit just right for snowy days at Whitewater.
With that legendary powder serving up a healthy dose of face shots, it’s not uncommon to see skiers and boarders looking like wild and woolly creatures from the forest. You know the kind – beards coated in snow, a half crazed look in their eyes, and thick snowflakes piling up on their jackets.
But sometimes, even wild things need cover.
As a basic physiological human need, shelter is a key part of the foundation upon which other motivations depend. After skiing laps of magical pow, a brief indoor rest can recharge the batteries and offer an inviting meet up location for mountain goers.
Thankfully, with the addition of new buildings this year, Whitewater is ready to provide additional sanctuary and warmth for guests. Even the most diehard of outdoors folks will appreciate the variety of cozy creature comforts.
The original Daylodge, with over 40 years of skiing heritage (along with Fresh Tracks Cafe and Coal Oil Johnny's Pub), will feature a brand spanking new snack bar on the lower level. You can grab your favourite pow chow to go, or hang out inside at the eatery of your choice and slowly shed your wild form.
Over at the base of the Glory Ridge chair is the newly expanded Glory Lodge with lots of seating. The crackling wood fireplace will help resort goers warm up in between victory laps, and promises a heavy dose of magical ski ambiance. This cozy little spot might just rival the two-seater Silver King as the perfect place on the hill to huddle up to that someone special.
Keep your eyes open for a couple of brand new buildings that will provide more space for guests. Stop by the Skier Services Lodge for your Snow School and Rentals & Repairs needs, and the Guest Services building to grab your lift pass.
So bring on those winter storms. Whitewater’s got plenty of room to help hungry powder lovers warm up and take a break from Mother Nature’s snowy playground.
