Red/Yellow/Blue
New Years day is a day where skiing is not at the top of most peoples list. Sleeping, recovering and being as sloth like as possible is more the norm.
For a small group of locals keen to get out into the Whitewater backcountry for some fresh lines new years day was the perfect opportunity. The day was over cast, cloudy and not that appealing. Put a painters palette of colours amongst all that grey and you have a much brighter outlook. Add in a rogue American (the one in the yellow) and the day starts to shape up.
Our plan was to head up the silver king lift and ski Black Queen and then White Queen on the way out. Given recent conditions 'extra caution' were the words of the day (be sure to stay on top of what the snow pack is doing by visiting the CAA web site for current avi reports).
Take advantage of those grey days and add a little colour to them, you will find that they brighten up real nice.www.backcountryskiingcanada.com
