Reconnaissance mission and a not-too-little reminder

With a confirmed sighting of snow on Ymir Peak last week, Ms. PWDRLVR and I decided to take a drive up to the hill and go for a walk. The weather has been a mixed bag these days so, with rain called-for, we chucked a couple layers in our day packs and headed out. There was low cloud cover above and occasional rain at the lodge. The higher we got the more variation we experienced in the precip. Rain, hale, snow and maybe a little sleet thrown in for good measure.

It's always informative to hike on terrain you usually travel across on skis or a snowboard. We were struck by how 10+ metres of snow can fill in massive gaps and soften some of the angles.

There was no great adventure, and that was just fine. It was a simple walk in mountains that are about to undergo a massive transformation as the snow piles on, centimetre after centemetre. We did manage to get a thorough soaking as we descended through the alders. Look at this super-blue berry. Just holding on until the snow takes over the ground cover.

REMINDER: Though we only spotted a little snow here and there (proof below), it is coming. Regardless of what the prognosticators say in terms of quantity, it'll be plentiful and it'll be a blast. If you want to save 40% of a regular-priced season pass, take advantage of the early bird deal and grab yours before the end of the month.
