Peace, love and the 15 cm rule.

Ever notice, how, after a 15+cm dump, you can see clients, family, friends and coworkers up at the hill and nobody ever talks about work or any responsibilities? It's as though the powder washes away people's cares. It's like Whitewater becomes a space where skiers and riders enjoy a kind of powder-driven diplomatic immunity from worldly responsibilities.

Sure, many communities claim to have a 15cm rule. Whitewater may be the only place where people actually follow through and make it happen. We check various weather products the night before and morning of, we set all meeting/appointment times to end of the day or try to reschedule ones that we had booked for too early. If all systems are go and it's 15+cms - BOOM. We're off and heading up to the hill, knowing we??e in for something special.

The best part of this little story, is being there. On a powder day. The kind of day where you seem to be able to discover fresh tracks all day long, hitting places that you can't believe remain untouched. And who do you see up there? The people who put a priority on getting out and making hay when the sun shines - your clients, family, friends and coworkers. And what do you talk about? Work?... Negative. Impending tax deadlines? No sir. You talk about the quality of the snow and your last run. Because it was that good. And the 15cm rule is in full effect.
