Mod, Mod, Low, good to go?... Maybe Not.
Happy Holidays from Whitewater Ski Resort and Backcountry Skiing Canada! Last week we got rocked with some storms that brought us around 70cm of snow and has set up for some great skiing. We have three layers in our snowpack that we are monitoring, the December 13 Rain Crust, the December 10 Surface Hoar/ Crust combo, and the Nov 22 Surface Hoar/ Crust combo. Recent tests show these layers are getting stronger, but are the type of layer that will produce high consequences. Avalanche Canada is calling the hazard Moderate, Moderate, Low, but don’t forget that Moderate hazard still means that human triggered avalanches are possible. With the holidays here, it’s a good time to remind ourselves that Whitewater has a No Uphill Traffic Rule. This is 24 hrs a day during the season. Again Happy Holidays and hope to see you up here!
