Mid-Summer Mountain Update!

I know this summer heat makes you dream about the cool, refreshing pow, it's happening to us too. When you think about powder, you think about Whitewater Ski Resort, right? You must be wondering by now what kinds of tricks we have up our sleeves for 2013/2014, so we'll let you in on the good news. It's time to brush the rumours aside and set the records straight. The most extensive project that is already underway is the construction of our new maintenance shop. We have outgrown our older shop and are ready for our outdoor operations to be bigger and better. The site for the shop is about 100 meters below the fork in the road (roughly below the bottom of Sproulers). The new shop will reduce the downtime of our machinery that requires repair while providing a more productive working environment for our staff. How does this affect you? Improvements in our outdoor operations ultimately means better grooming, lift maintenance and snow removal. This is the foundation of our resort and it is crucial to our ability to provide you with the best possible experience with us.Another big improvement will be our Fresh Tracks Cafe Express building addition. Last year we put in the running water and septic, this year our favorite food truck's winter home will be getting an indoor, heated dining area, 2 bathrooms with flushing toilets and running water, and a heated first aid room with 2 beds to improve patient care.We continue to nurture our mountain facilities with annual maintenance to the lodge, equipment and lifts. We have improved the drainage in our locker area, and have installed wood at the base of the interior of the lockers so that you can put your boards to sleep in the comfort of that they deserve.BUT WHAT ABOUT THE RUNS? Okay, okay, you've waited long enough.....Buckshot has gotten some love. This little run is a veritable gateway to the GOODS. We've widened the run, and removed a substantial amount of wood debris from the surface area, which will result in grooming earlier in the season. Golddigger has also been the recipient of some chainsaw love. Lowering of stumps and some "buck and burn" on the run will improve the fluidity and again, it will be "groomable" earlier in the season.Last but not least.....THE BLAST. How exactly can we improve on near perfection? We've made it slightly wider on the skiers left, between towers 3 and 7. This is to improve the safety of the Average Joe who is not aware of the hundreds of people who thrive on the huckability of the lower half of the Blast, and also to further improve the terrain for future "Junior Freeride Competitions".I hope this update will help lure the return of more powder dreams (as if they ever left), and will tide you over until our next Mountain Update. All of these improvements and upgrades are with you in mind. We couldn't do it without you, and what would be the point, anyway? For those of you that have been asking for a photo of the Blast, here you go! You might not notice much of a change now, but you likely will when you see it with snow! 521f7186d0115the-blast.jpg
