It ain't over til it's over!
As the season draws to an end, Gary and I have been reflecting on what an epic season we've had at Whitewater. Despite some people lamenting the season being "over" I beg to differ. Last Thursday conditions had everyone stoked and the lucky cats who were up the hill can agree it was one of the top days of the season. Fresh pow, intermittent bursts of bluebird skies and sunshine, not to mention the nonexistent lines and crowd-free slopes!
If I had a dollar for every time someone told me that this year is one of the "worst seasons we've had in years", then I'd be able to buy quite a few jugs of Faceplant at Coal Oil Johnny! Come on people, don't take this magical place for granted, we should be grateful for what the season has delivered and I think the fact that people have flocked here to get away from their home mountains is a testament to the quality of conditions that Whitewater has provided us with.
Sunday was another super fun day and we hitched a ride with a couple of skiiers from Jackson Hole who arrived in Nelson the night before. After taking them down somewhat of a hidden gem of a run where we scored some fluffy, deep pow, these guys could not contain their stoke and it was really refreshing to see such unbridled enthusiasm so late in the season. They were hooting the whole time and frothing over the "pillow on pillow" action and all they had to say was how LUCKY we were to have scored these conditions and the terrain that Whitewater offers.
Their stoke reaffirmed that we made the right move to set up camp in Nelson for the winter and maybe this was not "the best" season ever, but it has been pretty damn good by our standards.
Here are a few pics that encapsulate the good times that can still be found up at the hill...a reminder to make the most of the fun times before the hill closes!
