Get Mental About Winter.

There is often a lot of emphasis on physically preparing for ski season, but what about mental preparation? Here are a few simple things that I like to do to get my head in the game.

Bust out your favorite toque. Put it on your head. The feeling of it will instantly remind you of why us winter lovers crave the cold, fresh air and how good it feels to be bundled up and ready for the elements. If you??e lucky, it will still SMELL like winter.

Get up in the alpine. Grab that toque you just dusted off, your down jacket and get up high in the alpine. So far, there isn?? much snow out there yet to limit your access too much. When you get up there, take a good look around. Imagine everything covered in 2 ?? 3 meters of snow. If that doesn?? give you a little tickle in your belly, I don?? know what will. Re-fresh your gear. Sell some skis, get some new ones! Get your skis boots re-fitted/molded. There?? nothing like new gear to bring on the stoke. Even if it?? a hand me down from your sister, it?? still new to you and will help you envision yourself cruising the pow like a champ (maybe even better than your sister). Watch some ski/snowboard movies, some new some old. Premiere season is upon us! There are loads of movies to check out on the big screen, or watch some old favorites that you??e seen before, but not for awhile. Trailers are also a nice tease, and don?? cost a cent. Have a look at Powder?? Trailer Park ?? Your one stop shop for all of this year?? ski movie trailers. Bring your skis or board inside your house! LOOK at them, talk to them, hug them. I like to put my skis in the main living room of our house where we spend most of our time. They are my best friends all winter long and they deserve to be dusted off and cozy inside with the rest of my "family". Having them in a high vis location also helps to prompt winter talk among friends. Spread the stoke and GET MENTAL about winter! Get MENTAL about winter! Photo: Caroline Van T Hoff
