Ecstasy at Whitewater

With blue bird skies (the first in several weeks) you can be assured that the ski touring masses will come out from the haze of their hill skiing daze that was the month of December. After all sun + snow = some pretty decent mid winter ski touring if you know where to look. A quick scan across Ymir Bowl reveals that there are lines-a-plenty all over the place and that people have indeed taken advantage of these sunny days. If you are willing to travel further afield you can still find what you are looking for but be sure to have your skills up to the task. The picture below was taken on a route called "Ecstasy" on Sunday afternoon. This route is directly west of "Whales Back" which is easily viewed from the Glory Ridge Chair. This terrain is all challenging so be sure to take an AST course and also stop by Whitewater this sunday for the Avalanche Awareness Days.To get more information and find out about all things Backcountry safety be sure to attend the Avalanche Awareness Days at Whitewater this coming Sunday January 20, 2012.The events are as follows:9:00 - 3:00pm Nelson Search & Rescue Info Booth
