Convection = Accumulation
It's not like there's a giant system off the coast of BC funneling massive amounts of cool Aleutian Low moisture that buries most of British Columbia. Nor do we have a heavy Pineapple Express at war with a stagnant Arctic Low. Really, all we have is unsettled air. Hmmm, sounds like a stomach after pineapple juice and cereal. Meteorologists call it convective flurries--cold air mixing with warm air rising over a seriously fat snowpack, loading clouds with beautiful crystalline bliss. The results are isolated flurries or showers that can load slopes with snow super, super fast. It is, in a nutshell, winter not wanting to give into spring. An awesome, age old battle that makes 42 cms in 24 hours at the end of March of very real reality.
