Avalanche Conditions Report: Coldsmoke is Coming!
Since last week we haven't seen much change in avalanche conditions. The Feb 2nd crust has bridged our lower instabilities, and with 20-30cm of snow on top, the skiing has improved. Our only avalanche problem is a wind slab in the alpine, and due to variable winds, this wind slab can be found on most aspects.
Coldsmoke Powderfest is a week out, starting on Friday the 21st and running through to Sunday the 23rd. There are limited spots available in some of our backcountry clinics so check out www.coldsmokepowderfest.com to sign up before they go. Also, we will be holding our brand new professional freeride comp - the Powder Crown, on Sunday February 23rd. The Venues will be either West Ymir or Upper Trash Chutes depending on the weather. Certain backcountry restrictions will be in place as of Wednesday, February 19th. Please check the avalanche safety board daily, if you are travelling in the local area.
