Avalanche Conditions Report #6 30cms of New Snow

We are back with Dave and Backcountry Skiing Canada to deliver you our 6th Avalanche Conditions Report of the Season. Some key highlights to be aware of:

  • 30cms of new snow in the past week,
  • This new snow buried our January 30th surface hoar layer, this layer and the January 14th melt-freeze crust will be what we are watching in the coming weeks.
  • Wind slab in Alpine and Treeline features is the main concern right now.
  • There has been some natural activity in the past few days we saw a size 1 avalanche in Ymir Bowl and a size 2 skier accidental on Whales Back.
  • The December 4th persistent weak layer is about 160cms down.
  • skiing is really great.

As always play safe out there!
