Avalanche Conditions Report #10: Cold Smoke Weekend!
Last weekend we had roughly 40cm of snowfall which sat on top of a surface hoar layer from February 13. This created a reactive storm slab in the Whitewater area that is beginning to settle out. We are in a period of high pressure with clear sunny skies, but be mindful that the sun can have a dramatic effect on the snowpack and can wake up deeper instabilities. We are also expecting around 10cm of snow this Sunday.
Cold Smoke is this weekend, it is a great event and we encourage you to come out and enjoy the festivities. There will be a demo village at the base where you can try out new gear, lots of backcountry clinics, and our new event this year The Powder Crown which is taking place on Sunday. Should be a good time and we hope to see you out!
