A healthy sense of closure
The Easter weekend up at Whitewater signalled the end of the season for us all. As with any healthy relationship, it's important to have closure--something to mark the end of an experience. If you ski at Whitewater regularly, or even just occasionally, you develop an appreciation for the hill as well as experience the associated emotions, triggered by the kind of day you had. I call this a relationship.
That's why closing weekend is so healthy for all of us who love to ski. The smiling faces, sunny skies, music, good food and slush cup (of! course!) allow us to celebrate the season that was, and consider moving on to our bikes, gardens or whatever else we do without ski boots on our feet.
The reeeeally cool part about it all for us, though, is that closing weekend marks a kind of temporary closure. It's not like a "human" relationship closure where it might be the END. With the finish of ski season, we have the luxury of knowing that it is only temporary. In fact, after a couple months, the stoke will start building for next season. It's only 238 days away, give or take. But who's counting?
