3rd Annual Community Day Another Success
The 3rd Annual Community Day was a hit at Whitewater Ski Resort! On January 12th 2018, all of those who reside in the local area and were keen to hit the slopes did just that. For a $10 donation to two local charities and a non-perishable food item, locals who don’t hold a season’s pass were able to ski and ride for the day.
The Whitewater Team wants to thank everyone for coming out to help support. As a community, we raised over $4,000 for Avalanche Awareness Beyond the Boundaries (AABBS) and the Nelson and Area Friends of the Family Foundation; including food donations for the Nelson Food Cupboard.
AABBS is a local non-profit organization founded in 2009. It provides free education for youth (ages 12-18) that would like to venture out into the backcountry, but may not have the insight yet. Youth in the Kootenays are able to gain knowledge in avalanche skills training, route planning, and all of the back country basics thanks to this rewarding program.
The Nelson and Area Friends of the Family Foundation is the result of local families wanting to give back to the community after they were given help during their own time of need. The Foundation’s purpose helps other families in a crisis; such as dealing with childhood illness or accidental injuries that can cause financial impacts.
