The snowline is waaaay down the mountain. It's the end of November and there are but a handful of days before the lifts start to spin. It's offical in fact--the big day is Saturday, December 5.
The anticiaption is almost painful. We'll soon be in our regular routine of carpooling up to the hill and seeing many familiar faces. Though Nelson's a small city, it seems like I only see some people at the hill. It's like they hibernate from April to December and resurface with the opening of Whitewater. That's a good way of describing my experience. Sure, I like hiking, biking and paddle boarding as much as the next guy but skiing, that's something different. It enjoys a special status.
So count it down people. Do whatever you can to muster some physical fitness and get ready for fun. I'll be the guy with a smile on his face picking snow out of his moustache. See ya up there.
