Artist in Residence

Please welcome our talented Artists in Residence for the 2025/2026 season: Lindsay Dew and Morgan Bialkowski. Scroll down to read more about who they are, their creative process, and the links to their websites!

Lindsay Dew

Lindsay Dew is a Canadian painter who holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University, majoring in Fine Arts. She attended École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France during her fine arts degree. Lindsay’s artwork has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. Her work has been selected for numerous publications and featured online. Recently, Lindsay has been selected to participate in gallery artist residency programs within Canada. Lindsay Dew was born on the Sunshine Coast, BC, grew up travelling and living abroad and now resides in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada with her family.

Lindsay have always been intrigued by our connection to land and the dynamic relationships with our environment. The environmental imprint it has on us and the impact we have on the environment has been a fundamental theme in her work. Shaped by time and weathered by environmental stressors, she view geological features as monumental figures. Rock formations record history, creating a presence to be celebrated. Similar formations are found all over the world which unify our conscious or subconscious connection to land and our personal experience with it.

Linday's contemporary landscapes are created intuitively. They are not intended with a specific location in mind or photo referenced. She continues to be fascinated by responses my paintings elicit. Her landscapes often evoke the viewer’s memory and experience of a specific location. This dialogue between artist and viewer creates a shared experience of connection to land.

Morgan Bialkowski

Morgan Bialkowski is a contemporary artist originally from Parry Sound/Muskoka, ON. Other than some high school art classes, she is self taught, primarily using acrylic paints. After a long hiatus from painting to complete two degrees, she now resides in Rossland, BC but makes it out to Nelson often to sell prints and buy materials, ski Whitewater, and partake in community events like the Art Walk and the Art Throwdown at the Royal.

Morgan enjoys painting landscapes full of color and local wildlife that is dressed to bike, ski, or après. Morgan strives to intensify the features of the landscapes that make them beautiful, capitalizing the use of aerial perspective and harmony. These principles help her to portray her unique emphasis of light.

Ultimately Morgan’s goal as an artist is to evoke a sense of connection and introspection in those who encounter her work. Her art is a reflection of her memories and adventures with friends. It is her hope that viewers gain a sense of nostalgia and are inspired to go on adventures themselves or spend time in nature.

About the Program

Whitewater’s Artist in Residence program is back for the 2025/2026 season! This will be our seventh season running the program, and we’re thrilled to continue supporting and showcasing the diverse artistic talents in our region and beyond. Our program is all about you—the artist—and your vision for the season.

What the Residency Offers

Successful applicants will receive a Season Pass for the 2025/2026 winter season, have the opportunity to sell their art on display in the Day Lodge, and gain exposure on our social media channels. We also offer opportunities for further events, sales channels, and collaborative projects depending on your creative endeavors. Throughout the winter season, we’ll work closely with the selected artists to highlight their work, engage with the community, and explore the exciting intersection of stunning mountain landscapes and raw creativity.

Community Engagement

The artist will host 2–3 engagement events during their tenure as the Artist in Residence. This could take the form of a workshop, live demonstration, or another interactive activity that reflects the artist’s creative journey.

Showcasing Your Work

The artist is expected to replace any artwork that sells during the season, ensuring that the walls of the Whitewater Day Lodge remain in brilliant decoration. Artists are responsible for providing any frames and fixtures to fasten the art to the Day Lodge walls. Additionally, the artist will appear in a short promotional video to highlight their residency, sharing insights into their creative process and their connection to the stunning mountain environment that inspires their work.
